Urban Itineraries of Villacarlos

The most outstanding feature is the Plaza Mayor, the former parade ground, flanked by the elegant facades of the Town Hall dating from the 18th century, by British barracks in their origin—one of which houses the Military Museum of Menorca—and the Iglesia del Roser (late 18th century).

There is a street market in the Plaza Explanada two days a week, and it has a large number of bars and restaurants, most of which operate all year round. Its patron saint festivities, Sant Jaume, take place at the end of July, but the engine of its tourist and gastronomic activity is found facing the sea, especially in Cales Fons. A detour from the roundabout at the entrance of Villacarlos leads to the prehistoric settlement of Trepucó. There is a large "talaiot" and a "taula," and in the next meadow, one can observe part of the settlement that has been excavated. The monuments were built between the first and second millennium BC, at the same time approximately that Moses led the people of Israel to the promised land, and of course, it is worth visiting, even for those who are not specialists in archaeology.
